When attempting to think of outfits appropriate for summer, BBC Sherlock is hardly the first fandom that pops into your mind palace for inspiration. However, we here at 3 Chic Geeks find that the layering aesthetic adopted by many of the characters works wonderfully during the warmer months. We’ve compiled a series of outfits to inspire you to bring a little bit of London to your summer wardrobe.
The Outfit: Light layers are perfect for the gal who has a summer job or internship. Pair a simple tank in almost any color (*cough* purple shirt of sex *cough*)with a dark pencil skirt to keep your outfit casual yet sophisticated. Layer a crop-sleeved cardigan over for work, because no matter how hot it is outside, it always seems to be freezing in the office, am I right? No need to give up the trademark navy blue scarf just because it’s June–wearing one in a gauzy fabric will channel your favorite consulting detective without making you uncomfortable. Add a funky piece of jewelry like magnifying glass earrings and your favorite heels, then you’re good to go.
Appropriate For: Wearing to the office, day-t0-night look, dressing up just because, detective work. We recommend wearing flats instead of wedges while on the case, though. Never know when you’re going to have to chase a cab across London.
The Outfit: For those all-day summer trips, you’ll want to layer up. Pair your favorite bermuda shorts with a breezy sleeveless blouse. A light sweater will get you through the June gloom mornings, then tuck it into a bag and pull it out again in the evening when it cools off. Wear your favorite pair of comfy flats, especially if you’re going to be on your feet all day long because your roommate couldn’t bother to get dressed and you have to trudge around the crime scenes on your own with a laptop in tow. Don’t forget your watch–a good Watson never forgets a watch.
Appropriate For: Day trips, blogging on the go, forgetting to call your sister, every day wear.
The Outfit: For those of you who like to chase criminals into the night, start with a pair of comfortable jeans and sturdy boots. Or if you’re chasing a daytime criminal, simply replace the jeans with a pair of shorts. It doesn’t matter if Mrs. Hudson took your skull again, you can bring Billy with you by donning a skull tank. If your blogger refuses to let you wear your robe out in public, you can always replace it with a loose kimono-inspired jacket that gives you the same cozy feeling. Lastly, don’t forget your aviator shades, because looking cool IS your division.
Appropriate for: Investigating, going incognito, nights out, dragging your “colleague” around London.
